Welcome to our First Grade website! We want to help you and your child have an incredible year in first grade. Here are some important facts about first grade!
Snack -Please send a small healthy snack that may be consumed in 5-10 minutes. If you would like to send a drink for your child, please send water only.
Daily folders - Communication folders will be sent home daily.
The folders will contain important information. It will also include a daily conduct and work habits report. We feel it is very important to notify parents of behavior and work habits on a daily basis. Please initial your child's behavior and work habits report every day. Please use this folder to send notes or other important information to your child's teacher to ensure that she receives it.
Tuesday folders - Weekly folders with your child's work will go home each Tuesday. Please review the work with your child. This is a wonderful way for your child to share what they have learned and accomplished in the past week. Please sign the Tuesday folder communication paper and return it INSIDE the Tuesday folder the next day.
Homework - MCES First grade believes that homework should be a stress-free time for both you and your child. During the first few weeks of school, we will ease into homework responsibilities. When your child begins to bring homework home, it should not take longer than 20 minutes each night (10 of those minutes should be spent reading). These activities will include practicing sight words and math facts. These activities are intended to support your child in his or her academic progress.
Volunteering - Please sign up in the office if you wish to be a volunteer for the 2018-19 school year!
If you registered last school year, you still need to register for the upcoming school year by November 15. If you register after November 15, you will have to complete the entire process instead of only updating your information. First grade will start utilizing volunteers during the 2nd quarter. You must be an approved volunteer before you can participate in Field Trips, Field Day, etc. To learn more about volunteering, click here
Sending in money - Please send any money to school in an envelope or Ziploc bag, labeled with your child's name and purpose for the money.
Absences - If your child is absent, please send in a note, an email, or report it on the MCES app. Please include the reason for your child's absence.
Transportation changes - If there are any changes to your child's regular method of transportation, PLEASE send a handwritten note or call the school at (919) 773-9555. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER. WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT THE TEACHER WILL GET THE EMAIL IN A TIMELY MANNER.
